A Grand Premiere

Many thanks to all of the folks who sent messages, came out, and watched the livestream of the world premiere of the Great Lake Concerto. It’s been a week and I’m still digging out of all sorts of work, I haven’t had an opportunity to really sit with the fact that the show came and went.

Sitting in Auditorium Theatre during the dress rehearsal was quite an experience. I arrived at noon, helping the percussionists load in and figure out acoustics for the hall. Hearing the second movement in that theatre was truly a moving experience and I’m so honored that I was able to write this piece for this space with these musicians.

You can watch the livestream here:

The musicians, soloists, and conductor were all fabulous and I’m so honored that the piece has received such a positive response. This video has been so well received, there are already close to 1,700 views.

Next Steps:

  • I’m working on a perusal score, as that has been requested by quite a few folks.
  • There are some fixes to make. Like with any premier, you learn things you like or dislike about a piece and have ideas for changes. I’m not one to go back over and over and re-write a piece to infinity, but there are certainly some adjustments I’d like to make – not to mention a few Dorico engraving errors I caught. What’s up with the double dynamics getting input when there should only be one???
  • We’re working on delivering an audio version of the performance in the next few months!
  • Similar to the behind the scenes video for A Light Divided, a behind the scenes documentary is in the works and will be coming out on my YouTube channel. This will cover all about the composing process, the rehearsing, and the final dress rehearsal at Auditorium Theatre.

I feel like I have more to say, but I think I should sit and listen to this piece again with the score…
