2023 Sound of Silent Film Festival with Access Contemporary Music

I’m excited to be returning to the Access Contemporary Music Sound of Silent Film Festival on April 26th at the Music Box Theater in Chicago, IL.

Access Contemporary Music’s Sound of Silent Film Festival is the only film festival in the country that features newly composed musical scores performed live to modern silent films from around the world.

ACM’s composers write a new score for each film and they are then screened with the music performed live. The films range from comedies to drama, animated films and more.  The festival is in its 18th year, it takes place at the gorgeous Music Box Theater and it’s always a fascinating experience.

This was such a fun project to compose for back in 2016. I loved the humor in this short and the performance of it by Nick Bolton. It really gave me a lot of opportunity to play around with the music, including having a piccolo solo invoking the feelings of preparations for going to battle! Humor in music is something that is such a challenge, but so fulfilling.

I’m really looking forward to seeing this live performance once again, as well as performances by other terrific composers by the Palomar Ensemble. So come on out on April 26th for a fun show!
